With its close proximity to the Salt Lake International Airport – an easy 30-minute drive, Park City Utah provides an array of year-round recreation, culture and entertainment. With 3 world-class ski resorts – Park City Mountain Resort, Deer Valley Resort (ranked #1 three years in a row), and Canyons Resort, and miles of groomed easily accessible cross-country trails, Park City is a winter sports mecca.
Just this past January, The New York Times named Park City #9 on its list of 41 Places to Go in 2011, lauding the community for its expanded ski terrain and lodging options.
The lifestyle Park City offers does not end when the snow melt, it just begins. Park City’s enviable year-round climate, bevy of recreation and entertainment options and engaged, intimate community. We hope this newsletter tells you something about the Park City lifestyle that you didn’t already know. And, I hope you’ll continue to see me as your best resource for Park City real estate.

A Well-Groomed Community
Renowned for its 400-mile network of public trails for summertime hiking, biking and horseback riding, Park City is less known for its wintertime trail offerings. Yet many of the community’s singletrack trails are popular during the cold months for hiking, snowshoeing and even Swiss-Bob sledding. In recent years, Mountain Trails Foundation (in collaboration with Park City Municipal and Snyderville Basin Recreation) has created an extensive groomed trail network for free, public use.
On a sunny winter day, the wide groomed trails in Round Valley undulate like curled, white ribbons. Cross-country skiers—using both classic and skate style—glide by, their measured exhales leaving a trail of tiny clouds behind them. Two women walking dogs and pulling young children in sleds stop to watch a snowshoe hare. High on a ridge, a trio of snow-bikers descend the smooth trail on huge, knobby tires.
Grooming trails makes them accessible for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages, stages and sporting interests. The smooth, hard surface is ideal for cross-country skiing, but is just as well suited to winter strolls of an easy grade. This winter, tens of miles of free, groomed trails can be found from Jeremy Ranch and Kimball Junction, to Round Valley and the historic Union Pacific Rail Trail. Two full-time employees groom the entire trail system almost daily to maintain favorable conditions for cross-country skiing.
A dedicated Mountain Trails Foundation Winter Trail Map shows the entire groomed trail system. Pick up a copy of the map for a small donation at Cole Sport, Jans Mountain Outfitters, White Pine Touring or other local outdoor shops.
The Montage Opens as the Crown Jewel
Park City is no stranger to luxury lodging. In fact, this small town is flanked by premier international hoteliers: the Waldorf Astoria Park City at Canyons Resort and the St. Regis Deer Crest at Deer Valley. Now, there’s a new gem in the community’s five-star lodging crown, one which some say sparkles brightest of all.
Open since December, the Montage Deer Valley is nestled into Deer Valley’s picturesque Empire Pass. Designed in a refined mountain craftsman style, the Montage offers 200 deluxe guest residences, plus every conceivable amenity, from a 35,000 square foot spa, to multiple restaurants and lounges, to dedicated ski and bike staff, to an extensive children’s program. And every aspect of the resort is executed with the brand’s signature graciousness.
