Heralding a New Era of The Deer Valley Experience

An exciting announcement was made over the summer that will prove to elevate the Deer Valley Experience to an even higher level!

That’s because Deer Valley Resort’s terrain will increase by an awe-dropping 3,700 acres, featuring a new portal to the mountain from the East side overlooking the Jordanelle Reservoir on Hwy 40 that will significantly improve ease of access to the mountain with 1,200 new parking spots and skier services facility. Thanks to Alterra Mountain Company, a nationally-acclaimed real estate developer, the expansion will add 16 new lifts, and a 10-passenger gondola, in addition to a new village with lodging, dining, and retail amenities.

The expansion is in partnership with Extell Development Company and will double the resort’s current skiable terrain, which will be supported by a new, cutting-edge snowmaking system that will uphold Deer Valley’s high expectations for grooming and curating its signature corduroy runs. There will still be a limit to the number of daily skiers, and the expansion will open with new trails as soon as the 2025/26 season, ultimately offering 5,726 acres of and still only open to skiers (no snowboarders allowed).

To put the impact of this expansion into perspective, the last time Deer Valley grew its terrain was 15 years ago with the addition of 200 acres of skiing on Lady Morgan Mountain.

The expanded development will also offer opportunities for Park City real estate ownership, with a planned 1,700 residential units, accompanied by more than 800 hotel rooms across multiple properties. The 250,000 square feet of retail and commercial pace and 68,000 square foot recreation center will make it a comprehensive village base where none exists presently.

The Extell Mountain Village will offer luxury residences for a four-season lifestyle experience, including the Marcella Club which features luxury homesites, a Tiger Woods-designed championship golf course, fine dining at Marcella on Main from James Beard Award-winning Chef Galen Zamarrav, and the Olson Kundig Marcella Lodge, providing ski-in/ski-out concierge services, an indoor/outdoor pool, plus fitness and yoga facilities.

To complement the investment at the new village, Deer Valley has committed to a number of improvements of existing facilities and a transformation of the Snow Park base area. This transformation promises to maximize slope time by reconfiguring chairlifts and providing chairlift access from underground parking, The skier experience will also be enhanced with a new state-of-the-art transportation center and access to a pedestrian plaza via the aforementioned underground parking.

Economically, it’s a boon to the local area, as the expansion is expected to create approximately 2,000 new Deer Valley job opportunities.

According to Deer Valley Resort President & CEO Todd Bennett, “Deer Valley Resort is committed to building upon our legacy as one of the world’s most exceptional ski areas while staying true to our founding principles created over four decades ago. This expansion will facilitate even better access to the resort for our guests while offering a substantial increase in world-class amenities consistent with the resort’s original vision.”
